When kids are in the womb, they're deeply affected by the soothing sounds of parents and caretakers. When they're born, they learn to speak by imitating the rhythmic speech sounds that suffuse their environment. Later, when they attend school, they learn to read by activating sounds written as symbols. Sounds like sounds are essential.
